Focus More Effort On The Fight Against Worsening Poverty - MP

The church has been urged to focus its efforts on the fight to overcome the growing poverty and other indignities faced by majority of Ghanaians.

Mr. David Hendrick Yeboah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Afigya-Sekyere East, said they needed to do more to help transform and make things better for the people.

“Amid the worsening economic situation, the expectation is that the church would lead the way to restore some hope.”

Mr. Yeboah was addressing a special service held by the Jamasi Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church - Mountain View Ghana Conference, to mark its 70th anniversary at Jamasi in the Sekyere South District.

“70 years of Adventism; perpetuating the faith of our fathers”, is the theme chosen for the celebration.

The event is being used to take stock of the activities of the church over the past seven decades and discuss what it could do to positively affect the lives of the people.

Mr Yeboah saluted the SDA church, which has established a strong foothold in the district, for its significant contribution to the development of the area.

He cited its investment in education, agriculture, health and skills-training programmes and asked that this was sustained.

Pastor Abankwa Amoakohene, President of the Mountain View Ghana Conference, said their goal was to promote not only the spiritual growth of the members but the health of the society.

He reminded the people to do away with selfishness and greed – the twin evil, fueling corruption.

Ms. Sophia Konadu, the Church’s Secretary, asked members both home and abroad, to make generous contribution towards the implementation development projects initiated by the church.
