Chief Imam To Observe Maulid On January 2

The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Usman Nuhu Sharabutu will on Saturday January 2, 2016 mark the birthday of Holy Prophet Mohammed with a grand durbar at the New Fadama School Park at Darkuma in the Greater Accra region.

The Holy Prophet’s birthday, known in Islam as Maulid Nabiyi, is a special event for many in the Muslim faith which occurs on the 12th day of Rabi al-awwal, the third month of the Islamic calendar.

It is an occasion that Muslims make merry by focusing on the life and teachings of Prophet Mohammed. They sing and say special prayers and devote time in remembrance of how the Holy Prophet forgave even his fiercest enemies.

As with other Islamic holidays, Muslims on this occasion also give to the poor and the needy in society.

The President, John Dramani Mahama is the special guest of honour for the event which will also have in attendance Muslim and traditional chiefs.

It is envisaged that next month's program will attract important personalities from the Muslim community both home abroad, leaders of various political groupings, dignitaries including business mogul and Chief Executive of Engineers and Planners, Ibrahim Mahama.
