Teacher, 41, Defiles Girl, 11

A 41-year-old teacher who allegedly defiled an 11-year-old girl has been arrested by the Dansoman Police.

The victim, whose identity is being withheld, is said to have been defiled in a washroom in her school, near Dansoman.

She is currently on admission at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

The police gave the name of the teacher as Maxwell Baniah.

Background

The case is currently being handled by the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Dansoman Divisional Police Command.

Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Dansoman Divisional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Mr) Antwi Tabi, said about 4:30 p.m. on December 2, 2015, the victim was going to respond to the call of nature in the school’s washroom after school had closed when Baniah asked her to buy a sachet of water for him.

He said the girl told Baniah she was going to the washroom and would later go back to take the money to buy the water.

However, he said, the girl claimed the teacher followed her to the washroom and ordered her to undress.

Mr Tabi said when the girl refused to comply with the order, Baniah forcefully removed her clothes and defiled her.

He said the grandmother of the victim, who lives with her at Chorkor, near Dansoman, found out two days later and reported the case to the police.
