VRA Job Is The First Contract Awarded To Me By The NDC - Mahama

Many people including NPP maverick, Kennedy Agyapong of Assin Central MP have attributed the success of the businessman, Ibrahim Mahama to the fact that his brother is the President of Ghana.

Hon. Kennedy Agyapong on several political talk shows has stated that the Chief Executive Officer of Engineers and Planners Company is wealthy due to the several contracts he has been awarded by his brother, the President.

But reacting to the assertion, Mr. Ibrahim Mahama on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show indicated that apart from the Volta River Authority (VRA) contracting his company to undertake some civil works at Aboadze to prepare a platform to receive the power generating units and other ancillary equipment for the AMERI 250MW Power Project, he has "never been awarded any contract by the current administration."

In honesty, I don’t buy all these talks. All the projects in the country, Ghanaians are not part of the contract; only foreigners are awarded the contracts. In Ghana, it is good for foreigners to be awarded contracts but when it is given to a Ghanaian then he is related to the President. How can that happen?

Didn’t Ken Agyapong work for government at the Bui Dam project? Was that a crime? How is mine a crime if I worked for the government? Why is it that Ibrahim working for VRA has become an issue discussion?” he quizzed.

He wondered why people want him to be redundant simply because his brother is the President of Ghana; asserting that his family friends in the opposition NPP know the caliber of his work.

He revealed that his company's deal with Neoplan was entered into during the NPP's era and reiterated that he took on the VRA job because Gold Prices have fallen which is why he is engaged in a private enterprise with the government.

I am not interested in getting involved with the NDC government to chase deals because my brother is the President of Ghana; that is not my style. Apart from the VRA contract, I have never received any contract from the NDC government…the truth is that the minority, they know me better than the majority; the minority knows me better than my own brother’s party [NDC],” he revealed.
