The 2016 Vice Presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party(NPP) Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia says the issue of the controversial AMERI power deal is testament to the corruption allegations the ruling NDC government is neck-deep in, but seeks to run away from it.
He’s accused government of swindling Ghanaians with the alleged scandalous deal, insisting that “this contract does not make sense.”
He suspects government might still be hiding relevant facts about the deal.
“The issue of the AMERI power deal is the latest episode of issues bothering on corruption and failure to ensure value for money for the people of Ghana” Dr. Bawumia said while addressing old students of Prempeh College in Kumasi in the Ashanti region.
The AMERI power deal has received huge public outcry following media reports of what has been suspected to be an inflated price for the 10 gas turbines in the contract, according to ACEP.
A Norwegian newspaper, VG has also reported that the actual cost of the turbines was 220million dollars speculating that Ghana had paid 290 million dollars more for the same turbines.
