Akufo-Addo Calls On Omanhene Of Sunyani

The 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Saturday, December 19, 2015, paid a courtesy call on the Omanhene of Sunyani, Nana Bosome Asor Nkrawie II, ahead of the NPP’s Extraordinary National Delegates’ Conference.

His courtesy call follows a refusal by the Sunyani Traditional Council to receive the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, over an impasse between the council and the Brong Ahafo Regional branch of the party.

Members of the Sunyani Traditional Council were yesterday locked up in a crunch meeting to consider stopping the New Patriotic Party from holding its extraordinary congress in the Brong Ahafo capital.

The decision was prompted by the party’s regional executives’ failure to apologise for remarks made against the Paramount Chief, Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri, which the Council considered revolting.

Nana Nkrawiri came under criticism in October from the NPP following his comments to the effect that President John Mahama will win next year’s election in the region with an overwhelming 80 per cent.

At a press conference, the regional executives of the party condemned the comments by the Chief, describing it as unfortunate, unacceptable and a breach of the country’s constitution.

Despite the misunderstanding that ensued between the two parties, Nana Akufo-Addo and his team were warmly received by the Omanhene and his elders.

The NPP flagbearer was accompanied by Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, his running mate; Nana Obiri Boahen, NPP deputy General Secretary; Madam Ama Busia and Hackman Owusu Agyeman, both members of the NPP National Council of Elders; Hon. Baffuor Awuah, former Brong Ahafo Regional Minister and MP for Sunyani West; Mr. Peter Mac Manu, 2016 Campaign Manager; and Kwadwo Yeboah Fordjuor, former NPP Regional Chairman.
