9/11 Victims To Be Remembered

New Yorkers are to commemorate the eighth anniversary on the attacks on the World Trade Center. A ceremony will be held at Ground Zero, where the twin towers stood, to remember those who died in the co-ordinated attacks on 11 September 2001. The area is still a building site despite plans for a memorial, a museum, and five new skyscrapers. The projects have been delayed by political arguments and financial and legal disputes. There has also been a row between the site's developer and its landowner over the terms of the lease. Meanwhile the commercial market in lower Manhattan has been hit by the recession. All these factors leave huge question marks hang over the entire project. The first of five skyscrapers is scheduled to be complete by 2013. But, in a recent poll, a majority of New Yorkers said they did not believe the project would be completed on time. One day a fitting memorial will no doubt stand at this site. But it will not be any time soon.
