Kotoko 1-0 Aduana: Porcupine Warriors win Ghalca G6 title

The Porcupine Warriors pipped the Ogya lads to clinch their second preseason silverware ahead of the GPL campaign.

Asante Kotoko secured their bragging right after defeating Aduana Stars 1-0 in the final of the inaugural Ghalca G6 tournament at the Essipong Stadium on Sunday thanks to a goal from Halipha Sedego.

Kotoko were without head coach David Duncan and several first team players including captain Amos Frimpong, who are representing the team in Libya in an international friendly.

Nurudeen Amadu named a strong line-up for Aduana and the 2010 league champions were rewarded with a penalty after just seven minutes but skipper Godfred Saka's effort was thwarted by Kotoko goalkeeper Eric Ofori Antwi.

Halipha Sedego and Bennett Ofori proved to be the livewire of Kotoko upfront but the duo was unable to surmount the bulwark defence of Aduana in first half.

Aduana returned from the break more purposeful but soon conceded a penalty after Yakubu Mohammed was adjudged to have brought down Elvis Amo.

Burkinabe international Halipha Sedego stepped up and perfectly sent goalkeeper Joseph Addo the wrong way to put his side ahead after 51 minutes.

Aduana coach Amadu brought on star striker Yahaya Mohammed and midfielder Richard Mpong but it was the former who really made a positive impact in the game to the delight of the travelling supporters.

Yahaya twice forced two brilliant saves from Antwi in the 78th and 81st minutes.

Aduana went furious with referee Issaka Adams as they were denied a penalty on the stroke of full time when Tuffour Frimpong's high-foot appeared to have clipped the Aduana striker. Kotoko held on until the final whistle.

Kotoko en route to the final defeated Berekum Chelsea 1-0 before sharing the spoils 1-1 with Ashantigold to win Group A with four points.
