Female STMA MCE Confirmed

47-year-old consultant and educationist, Charlotte Otuwa Odoom, has been confirmed as Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) in the Western region with four other DCEs also endorsed.

The four DCE who were also confirmed, according to the Western regional Minister, Paul Evans Aidoo, are Alexander Ofori—Bia West, Eric Cobbinah—Shama, George William Somiah—Jomoro, and Joseph Dofoyenah for Ahanta West.

Out of the 70 Assembly members present, 68 voted “yes” for the President’s nominee for STMA representing 97 per cent with two voting no.

With her election, Charlotte Otuwa Odoom becomes the first female MCE for Sekondi-Takoradi, replacing the immediate past MCE, Captain Anthony Cudjoe (Rtd).

Before her appointment, she had worked for the Assembly for many years as a finance officer during the PNDC/NDC era.

She also contested the NDC’s parliamentary primary ahead of the 2012 elections but did not win the slot.

For his part, Western regional Minister, Paul Evans Aidoo, urged the newly elected MCE and DCEs to respect members of the assembly and everyone they will be working with.

He said the number that voted for them indicated that the Assembly members were ready to work with them, and thus admonished the appointees to be reminded that Assembly members can make and unmake them.

Hon. Joseph Dofoyenah on behalf of the MCE and the DCEs expressed gratitude to the president for the confidence reposed in them and promised that they will work with all the members of the assembly to accelerate development of their metropolis and district assemblies.
