Mahama Will Soon Auction Ghana...Hardship Forced Him To Accept Terrorists

Former Ghana’s Ambassador to India under the former ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor’s administration, Professor Mike Ocquaye says the news that there could be some financial inducement in the transfer of two terrorists to Ghana does not come as a surprise.

According to the former first Deputy Speaker of Parliament, the self-inflicted hardship on Ghanaians by President John Mahama will compel him to agree to any deal without looking at its future repercussion on the citizenry.

It has finally been revealed that Ghana was given a ‘small amount of money’ for accepting to host two Guantanamo Bay prisoners in the country.

Head of Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy in Ghana, Daniel Fennel disclosed this in an exclusive interview on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ on Monday.

No, not directly…US would help with a small amount to support housing and food…,” he replied to the question of whether Ghana was enticed financially to accept to host the ex-Guantanamo Bay prisoners.

Since the Foreign Affairs Ministry announced that the country has accepted to host two ex-Guantanamo Bay prisoners into the country, intense pressure has put on the government to send them back. There have also been calls to reveal details of the agreement, with many suspecting the Ghana government has been induced financially to accept people the world's most security conscious nation has declined to accept on its soil.

Prof Oquaye on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show revealed that Ghana is the only country in the world which has accepted to host Gitmo prisoners who are not its nationals.

He added that all the countries including Egypt which have accepted to house some of the Guantanamo Bay prisoners are nationals of the countries they have been sent to except Ghana.

The former Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya Constituency explained that he was initially baffled by the decision of President Mahama to go into such an agreement until a FOX News item revealed through its Chief International Correspondent, Catherine Herridge, that there was money involved before Ghana accepted to take the two terrorists at the expense of the porous nature of the country’s security system.

“The people were supposed to be transferred to South Carolina but the Legislature and the governor refused; every America state refused these two terrorists despite their hefty security expertise…of course the allegation of money being involved could explain the reason behind the decision by President Mahama to accept the terrorists,” he revealed.

To him, President Mahama has shown gross disrespect to Ghanaians for not informing anybody.

"He didn’t allow discussion to go into the decision; he didn’t give respect to Ghanaians because the whole of Ghana is represented by one House [parliament] but Parliament was not aware of this…with what has happened, we will wake up one day to find Ghana being auctioned due to the current hardship coupled with hikes of fuel prices and utility tariffs. What is left of Mahama-NDC government is to go cup in hand, begging for financial assistance!” he chided.
