Madam Stella Amoatemaa, Nkoranza Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has urged parents to enroll their children in the technical and vocational institutions to enable them to acquire employable skills for their future.
She emphasised the need for the youth to take delight in learning vocations to become self- employed and minimise the unemployment challenge confronting the country.
Madam Amoatemaa was addressing the Staff and Board of Governors of the Nkoranza Technical Institute, where he handed over a site at Nkoranza to Messrs Jiangxi Zhongmel Engineering Construction Company Limited, an international building construction firm to build facilities for the school.
The proposed project jointly being funded by the Africa Development Bank (AfDB) and the Government would include a three- bedroom semi-detached staff bungalow, welding and agricultural mechanisation workshop, a two-storey ICT centre, catering, fashion and design block.
Madam Amoatemaa did not disclose the cost of the project but commended the AfDB for supporting the development of the country
Mr Godfred Axolu, Municipal Director of Education expressed gratitude to the Project Support Unit (PSU) of the Council for Technical Vocational Education and Training (COTVET) for ensuring the expansion of existing facilities in the school.
Mr Axolu said the programme being offered by the institute would improve the lives of the students on completion of their training.
Mr Kwame Oppong-Preprah Jnr Procurement Officer, PSU of COTVET announced that the contractor is expected to complete the project in 18 months and therefore appealed to the stakeholders of the school to offer him the necessary support to deliver.
Mr Theophilus Asamoah-Duku, Principal of the Institute praised the AfDB for offering scholarships to not only a number of needy students but also some members of staff to upgrade themselves.
