Upper East hosts One Ghana Unity Flag

Mrs Lucy Awuni, Upper East Deputy Regional Minister, at the weekend reiterated the need for all Ghanaians to use the occasion of the centenary birthday of the late Dr Kwame Nkrumah to champion the cause of unity and togetherness. Hosting the One Ghana Unity Flag in commemoration of the 100 Birthday of Dr Kwame Nkrumah held in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, she said Ghanaians should use the occasion to achieve a common goal of uniting to fight poverty and spur the growth of the regional economy. Mrs Awuni appealed to Ghanaians to put aside partisan politics and make concerted efforts to portray to the world that Dr Kwame Nkrumah, who was voted as Africa Man of the Millennium, truly deserved it. She said the legacy of Dr Nkrumah was beyond measure since he did not only fight for the independence of Ghana but for the total liberation of the African continent. Mrs Awuni noted that Dr Nkrumah also contributed towards the recognition of the dignity and respect for the black race which surpassed every human imagination. She said the One Ghana Unity Flag ceremony should rekindle in Ghanaians the sense of patriotism and unity towards the political and socio-economic development of the nation. She noted that the event was being organized to resuscitate in the citizens the legacy left behind by Dr Nkrumah and to also reawaken his virtues of freedom, unity, determination, high sense of commitment and above all sense of self reliance and integrity. Mrs Awuni assured the National Planning Committee of the centenary celebration of the unflinching support of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) to ensure its success. She appealed to the chiefs and people in the region to support the RCC in its bid to contribute towards the successful implementation of the epoch-making event. Mr Anastas Anderson, leader of the One Ghana Unity Flag team, stressed the need for all Ghanaians to view the celebration as very important taking into cognizance the role Dr Nkrumah played to advance the country. The One Ghana Unity Flag which commenced in the Upper West and Upper East Regions, is expected to get to Tamale on Monday and would be extended to every part of the country ending in Accra on 21st September this year.
