Gitmo Ex-Detainees Will NOT Exceed Their 2-Year Stay - Hannah Tetteh

Even though most Ghanaians now live in fear that Mahmud Umar Muhammad Bin Atef and Khalid Muhammad Salih Al-Dhuby can cause havoc in the country – it is also likely that the two detainees can also be hurt by aggrieved locals when seen in public.

But should any unfortunate thing happen to the ex-detainees - Foreign Affairs Minister, Hanna Tetteh says it will be of much concern to Ghana and the United States of America.

She explained that – Ghana as part of the deal to accept the detainees must provide maximum security to the former jailbirds.

Mahmud Umar Muhammad Bin Atef and Khalid Muhammad Salih Al-Dhuby arrived in Ghana for a two-year stay as part of a deal reached between the United States of America and the Government of Ghana from the Guantanamo Bay.

But their stay is causing ‘fear and panic’ among the citizenry.

In an interview with Radio Gold, Hannah Tetteh indicated that, the country's security will have an eagle eye on the foreigners whiles they are 'free' to use public facilities.

“If there is any unfortunate situation, we will investigate that very well but we pray and hope nothing happens to them here in Ghana. The security will protect them,” she said.

Mrs Tetteh however opined that the two detainees will 'not' exceed their two years stay in Ghana as intended.
