NPP 'Pleads' For Notorious Armed Robber Ataa Ayi's Release

National Organiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, wants President John Mahama to free notorious armed robber, Aryee Aryeetey, aka Ataa Ayi, who is currently serving a jail term at the Nsawam Medium Prisons because he is a changed person.

Boadu, who is also Acting the General Secretary of the elephant family, believes that the notorious armed robber also deserves compassion from President John Mahama, much the same as he (Mahama) has shown to the Guantanamo Bay cleared terrorists who are currently residing in Ghana and are undergoing rehabilitation.

The argument of the NPP chief scribe follows President Mahama’s call to Ghanaians to show compassion to the two cleared terrorist suspects who were held for fourteen years in America’s popular prison bay, Guantanamo.

Addressing the media, at the seat of government, the Flagstaff House, President Mahama questioned why Ghanaians have suddenly failed to make good their faith based compassion and hospitality which the good people of Ghana are well noted for.

“We must also look at the side of compassion. I am a Christian, and the Bible teaches us to be compassionate to prisoners… that is even persons who have been convicted, these people were not convicted and so where is our Christian passion or where is our faith based compassion on people that after being detained for 14 years without trial, we cannot find it in our hearts to give these people at least a chance to re-start their lives, and so there has been no consideration received for accepting these detainees.”

But John Boadu speaking on Peace FM Friday said if the President had been kind enough to Khalid Mohammed Salih al-Dhuby and Mahmmoud Omar Mohammed Bin Atef, who were on the radar of the government of the United States of America as two most dangerous terrorists, same courtesies should be extended to Ata Ayi.

“When they go and take the money, then they quote the Bible that we should have compassion for terrorists. So why not go and also free Ataa Ayi? He is just here in our prisons …he has turned a new leaf – in fact, he said he is a born again Christian and preaching the gospel”, he said.

Ataa Ayi is currently serving 120 years in prison for various armed robbery offences.
