Government scales up investment in education � Ablakwa

Mr Samuel Okudzato Ablakwa, a Deputy Minister of Education in-charge of Tertiary Education has reiterated government’s commitment to meet it targets in the educational sector. 

He said government has scaled up investment in the educational sector with strategic projects aimed at strengthening pillars.

Mr Ablakwa revealed this when he inspected the on-going construction of an office complex of the Association of African Universities (AAU), a newly completed library and administration extension block of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), an auditorium and demonstration block for the Accra College of Education.

The projects are being sponsored by Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) with the exception of only the library block at UPSA which is 70 per cent sponsored with internally generated funds .

The Minister said Ghana worn the bid of hosting the AAU secretariat since 1970.

He said the office and residential complex would save government from excessive spending on rent.

Mr Anthony Atta-Bosompen, Leader of the Consultancy and Head of Project at University of Cape Coast Department of Physical Development and Estate Management said the AAU project started January last year and expected to be completed this year.

He said the project is estimated at GH₡ 9.5 million.

Mr Edward Odjidja, Deputy Director of works at UPSA said the library is to house 1,300 students and has an executive floor for lecturers, researchers and others.

Mrs Christiana Bampoh Henaku, Principal of the Accra College of Education expressed gratitude to the government and the GETFUND for the projects.
