Bawku: Police Withholds Guerrilla Suspects' Background

The Upper East Regional Police Commander, ACP Bright Oduro, says the Police never discredited the Ghanaian Observer (GO) story on and its accompanying photographs of alleged guerrilla training in the area. According to him, considering the sophiscated artillery in the photographs published by GO, the professional thing for them to do was to conduct thorough investigations into the allegations, to ascertain the veracity of the report, something which they did. We never brought into disrepute the Ghanaian Observer story, so if someone did that or there was any such report it did emanate from usthe weapons in the pictures were sophiscated and so we had to undertake painstaking investigations into the matter, he said. Speaking on PEACEFMs Kokrokoo, he confirmed the arrest of one of the suspects in the images but withheld his name and ethnic background for security reasons. ACP Bright Oduro was however, hesitant in confirming media reports that the suspect is the son of the NDC Constituency Chairman in Bawku, adding that they are still searching for the other people in the photographs. There are a whole lot of people captured in the pictures and were still looking out for them looking at the photographs, its not really that clear as to who is issuing out instructions and who is taking them I cant say whether they are also being trained by Ghanaians or foreigners, he added.
