4 Arrested For Stealing Fuel

Four people have been arrested by the police for stealing fuel from a tanker which was involved in an accident at the Anloga Junction traffic light in Kumasi, on Saturday.

A police source at the Oforikrom Police Station confirmed the arrest, but would not give the names of the suspects.

The fuel tanker, with registration number GM6894-13, overturned at the junction as it attempted to negotiate a curve.

In spite of the danger of an explosion, it was a field’s day for the youth of the area, taxi and trotro drivers who rushed to the scene to scoop the petroleum product that had spilled all over the road.

The police and personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service struggled to control the crowd that had massed up at the spot to scoop fuel, and that caused a traffic jam for well over 30 minutes.

Eye-witnesses told The Ghanaian Times here, that the vehicle was traveling from Tema in the Greater Accra Region, to the Northern Region.

According to the eye-witnesses, some passengers on board a commuter bus escaped death narrowly.
