Take sanitation issues seriously - Yakubu

Mr. David Yakubu, Chief Director of the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council, on Monday appealed to people in the region to take up environmental sanitation issues seriously to promote good health. He said poor environmental sanitation had contributed to the death of many children in the region and efforts must be made to reduce sanitation related diseases. Mr. Yakubu was addressing school children and Zoomlion workers after a clean up exercise at the Wa Lorry Park to mark National Childrens Day in Wa. He said apart from children dying, sanitation-related diseases had accounted for about 8.6 million Ghana cedis spent in the treatment of diseases reported to health facilities in the region last year. This strained the finances of the various Mutual Health Insurance schemes in the region due to the spread of malaria, acute respiratory infections and diarrhoea diseases. Madam Annacleta Naab, Upper West Regional Director of Department of Children Affairs, appealed to government organisations to partner with children on issues affecting their welfare.
