What Is Nii Lante Coming To Do At Sports Ministry?

The only ministry with a majority number of ministers appointed in the annals of the country's political history, is the Ministry of Youth and Sports – and it is possible that, within the 11months left for the Mahama-led administration to face an election, another person will substitute Hon. Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye.

The NDC member of Parliament for Odododiodio constituency, Nii Lante Vanderpuije has been appointed by President John Dramani Mahama as minister designate for Youth & Sports in his recent reshuffle.

With his experience as a Sports Commentator in his hey days – Nii Lante will replace Dr. Mustapha Ahmed who took over as the Sports Minister after Ghana’s participation in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

But his appointment is generating some unease within the sports fraternity – many are expressing worry as to why the president frequently changes Sports Ministers.

Speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show, Ghana Montie renowned Sports Analysts and Editor of Ghana Sports, Dan Kweku Yeboah opined that the – “The reshuffling (of ministers) at the sport ministry is not helping matters.

Sports is a project on itself and every individual appointed there has their own sports preference so some projects are not accomplished due to this changes”.

He suggested that – “The sports ministry must give a four-year mandate to any minister. The next government must consider that.”

Dan however questioned Nii Lante’s current appointment – “Just some few months to election so what is Nii Lante coming to do there?”
