Today’s meeting comes just a day after, thousands of workers across the country poured on the streets in protest of the increments, which they say have worsened their living conditions.
The outcome of the meeting will determine whether or not organized labour will go ahead with a planned strike across the country.
The Chairman of the Tema District Council of Labour, Wilson Agana speaking to Citi News explained that they were unable to agree on the way forward at the last time they met with government.
“The last time we met, they said they will be able to reduce the tariffs but as at now we have not been able to agree on any percentage. If we get there today and it’s the same story then we have to go on strike. When we sit down by about two or three days then the government will sit up,” he added.
Organised labour is also pushing for about 50% increase in salaries of public sector workers and have issued a roadmap to ensure that it is achieved.
