Re: The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers to Seek Injunction against Government on Energy Levies

Our attention has been drawn to a publication by myjoyonline.com dated Tuesday 19th January 2016, stating categorically that; The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) intend to seek injunction against the government on the introduction of the Energy recovery levy and additional increment on the Energy Fund with regards to price build-up of the ex-pump price which has shot up the price of petroleum products.

The Chamber wish to inform its cherished consumers and the general public that; the Chamber remains focus and resolute with regards to its key objective of ensuring fairness and equity for the Ghanaian petroleum consumer with regards to quality fuel and fair pricing.

However we wish to also state categorically, that the Chamber shall not involve itself in any political activities which seeks to promote any political party or cause destruction to any administration when we believe we need to extend equity in our dealings with government.

The Chamber wish to inform the general public that; it has no intention to drag the current administration to court or what so ever. However, the Chamber has proposed a stakeholder meeting two days to each Pricing-window within the down-stream sector of the petroleum industry to have a consolidated opinion and decision on any price build-up matters in order to ensure equity for consumers.

The Chamber wish to also state emphatically that; its calculation on the current price build-up shows that it is bloated. We therefore propose a review of the ex-depot price with regards to the ex-refinery price of the Bulk Distribution Companies (BDCs) and also the Marketers margin on the ex-pump price.

The Chamber in due course will address the general public with regards to our position on the on the current petroleum price increment.

Thank you.
