Attack on Ayariga is Baseless - Group

Media Analysis Group (MAG), a pressure group, has described the recent media attack on Mahama Ayariga, presidential spokesperson, for visiting Bawku as unfortunate and a calculated attempt to tarnish his reputation. In a press statement, the group said we find the recent attacks on the personality of Mahama Ayariga in some sections of the print media and amplified by panelists of known political dispositions on certain radio stations as most unfortunate and unfair to a promising political young star who, in spite of his enviable professional and academic competencies, has dedicated his youthful life of the service of Ghanaian public. According to the statement, the accusations in the media that Mr Ayariga went to campaign in Bawku and that it was his campaign activities that ignited the conflict in the area are baseless. The statement explained that Mr Ayariga was born in Bawku and hailed from there and had every right to visit his hometown and spend time with his family and friends. It further explained that as a former parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress of Bawku in the 2008 general elections, the presidential spokesperson has a political interest in the area and cannot avoid engaging in political activities there. Moreover, the statement explained, the shameful efforts by the political detractors of Mahama Ayariga to link him to violent armed clashes in Bawku is most disgraceful and unfortunate because as Cletus Avoka, the Minister for the Interior, said on radio recently, violent clashes in Bawku began even before Mahama Ayariga was born.
