Leaders of The Teachers and Educational Workers Union have sent a message to their members across the country to resume work on Monday to make room for negotiation with government.
Speaking to Ghnews360.com after the leaders were locked up in a meeting that lasted well over eight hours, the Chairman of the union, Peter K Lumor indicated that the reason for calling off the strike action is to pave way for smooth negotiation with Fair Wages and Salaries Commission.
Asked if the directive from National Labour Commission played a role in the decision taken by the leadership, he had this to say” we do not want to debate the Labour Commission’s rule because the Labour Commission knows that the same Labour Law says that if the other party writes to you, within fourteen days you must respond”
He added, “We served notices and so on, our Vice Chancellors wrote to Fair Wages in November but they did not reply after 14 days”
According to him, all they asked for was to be called to the negotiation table and since that has been done, there is no need for them to extend the strike action and therefore with or without the directive from National Labour Commission, that was the ethical thing to do.
He directed all teachers to resume work on Monday as leadership remain in Negotiation with Fair Wages and Salaries Commission
