The Akuapem Traditional Council in conjunction with the District Assembly, has cautioned against the indiscriminate firing of muskets during the funeral rites of Okuapemhene, Oseadeyo Addo Dankwa.
According to statement jointly signed by the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr George Opare-Addo and Nana Osim Kwatia, Gyasehene of the Akuapem Traditional area and Chief of Amanokrom, only limited persons identified traditionally would be allowed to fire the muskets.
They have therefore warned all persons in the traditional area and others to desist from carrying any gun or ammunition in the name of musketry, during the funeral of the late chief or otherwise they would be dealt with by the police.
The traditional council has also given the assurance that the old age practice of beheading people to bury the late paramount chief, would not be executed and allayed the fears of the public.
The move by the traditional council is against the backdrop of previous experiences where lives haven have been lost and people got injured through the indiscriminate firing of muskets during the annual Odwira celebration.
The week-long funeral rites of the late Okuapemhene is slated to for Monday, February 1 to February 8, at the State palace at Akropong and thousands of people from government, various traditional areas, the clergy and the public are expected to bid him farewell.
Oseadeayo Addo Dankwa ruled for 41 years and would be remembered for his invaluable commitment to peace and development of the area.
