Ghana Health Services To Rate Public Hospitals

The Ghana Health Services have said it would start rating hospitals across the country.

The classification would be based on the hospitals response to emergency situations, human resource relations, equipments used in the hospital and their financial strength.

Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr. Ebenezer Appiah Denkyira tells Joy News in an interview that the ranking aims at improving service quality based on the resources available to a particular institution.

He said he is hopeful that the criteria already made available to all public health institutions would ensure responsibility to duty.

He indicated that “A hospital exist to take care of people who are sick, and sick people also look out for criteria’s such as - are the people ready for me, would I be given a required medication suitable for my illness and whether he/she would be made to understand the kind of illness he/she is suffering from.”

“Logistics management, information, financial systems which is centered on the human and technical aspect as well as the supporting structures, would also be signs we would look for during this exercise,” he added.

The relation between the communities in which a hospital is situated would also be an aspect that we would be much concerned about, because the hospital whiles in the community must create awareness to the individuals when necessary and also protect them from any unwanted diseases.
