Train Disaster Averted At Alajo

Two vehicles involved in an accident near the railway line at Alajo junction, near Ghana Police Training School in Accra, would have led to a major tragedy yesterday, but for the timely communication to train which was approaching the accident scene.

The well-timed information led to the train driver stopping the train some meters before the accident scene and, therefore, preventing what would have been a fatal tragedy.

The Vehicles involved in the accident were a blue Toyota Camry with the registration number GR 1211-12 and Legacy Capital Hyundai Saloon car, with registration number GX 650-15.

Though no casualties were recorded, both vehicles were partly damaged. According to an eye witness account, both vehicles were heading towards the Industrial area from Achimota at the Alajo overhead by-pass.

The Toyota Camry tried making an illegal U-turn, which led to the accident. As a result, the Hyundai saloon car skidded off the road and ended almost close to the rail line, he said. He concluded that but for the information that was relayed to the on-coming train to stop some few meters before the accident area, the train would have ran into the Hyundai saloon car and causing a major catastrophe.
