Tema Police Arrest Suspected Kidnapper

The police are keeping one Kingsford Mensah for allegedly trying to kidnap three children around the Fishing Harbour area in Tema.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Juliana Obeng, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Tema Regional Police Command, told DAILY GUIDE that two men arrested and brought the suspect, alleging that he was luring the children into his car.

According to her, the men saw the suspect asking the children – two girls and a boy – between the ages of 11 and12, to join his car, which attracted the attention of the people around the Tema Harbour area.

She added that the men became suspicious and reported the incident to the Fishing Harbour police who subsequently picked up Kingsford Mensah.

The PRO said when the suspect was interrogated he said he was just trying to offer the children a ride to their destination but not for any bad motive.

She seized the opportunity to caution parents not to send their children under 16 to far places, or they should be in the company of older persons if they (parents) want to do so.

She also implored individuals to be security alert and report any suspicious characters to the police.

Meanwhile, the suspect is currently in police custody assisting in investigation.
