The General Secretary of the Mosama Disco Christo Church (MDCC), the Reverend Isaac Kwesi Begyinah, has appealed to Ghanaians not to allow partisan politics to divide the country as the 2016 general election gets closer.
He called for unity towards national development, cautioning that people should not consider themselves as enemies because they belong to different political parties.
Rev. Begyinah made the call at a national thanksgiving service, organised by the MDCC, to mark the end of a four-day prayer and fasting by members across the country, on the theme, “Drinking water from the rain of heaven,” at Mozano near Gomoa Eshiem, in the Central Region.
He expressed worry about the use of insults in the country’s political discourse, saying it does promote democracy, and advised the youth not to allow themselves to be used by politicians to cause violence during this year’s elections.
Rev. Begyinah appealed to the electorate to vote on issues and not to engage in personality attacks, and the media to promote peace before, during and after the elections.
He lamented that the more than 10 years litigation of the MDCC had adversely affected its development, but said it would consolidate the gains made so far.
He said that the church had the vision of establishing a training college or a university in line with its policy of establishing educational institutions.
Rev. Begyinah said that the church would establish an educational fund to support needy but brilliant students.
