Ashanti Regional Police PRO Endorses Operation Shoot and Kill Fulani Cows

The Police Public Relations Officer for the Ashanti Region, ASP Yussif Tanko has said that the operation ‘shoot and kill stubborn’ cows launched in the Eastern Region is not limited to the region alone but any other part of the country with Fulanis.

The operation was propelled after police gathered information that the Fulanis are heading to the Eastern Region from Agogo in the Ashanti Region.

Dubbed operation "Cow Leg" the Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Awuntubuge Awuni noted that the operation is meant to drive out Fulanis who are suspected to be causing mayhem in the region.

However, Eastern Regional police commander, DCOP Awuntubuge Awuni has asked police personnel to be professional when handling the migrants.

"I will not take any casualty on behalf of the security personnel who are going there. If there should be a casualty, it must be them. I don’t want you to come with one of you missing, you are not by this directed to fire indiscriminately, but my instruction is that you have every right to defend yourself when you come under attack. And my instruction is that; gun down the cows who will be directed to you," he said.

Commenting on DCOP Awuntubuge Awuni’s command, ASP Yussif Tanko on Okay Fm’s 'Ade Akye Abia' morning show indicated that the command of the Eastern Regional police commander is not against the law to shoot at the cows in their line of duty if they are under any attack.

“The truth of the matter is that, the Fulani can speak to the cows to move and stop at any direction and if they want the cows to attack you, they can also speak to them to attack you . . . if the police is providing protection and the Fulanis speak to the cows to attack the police, their lives will be in danger and so the law allows the police to shoot at the cows to prevent them from the attack,” he endorsed.

Touching on Agogo-Fulani issue, ASP Tanko said the security agencies are on the ground providing protection to the people and preventing the Fulanis from entering Agogo as well as those in Agogo from coming to the township.
