News reports that popular highlife musician Ofori Amponsah had committed suicide have not been taken kindly by his management, Blag Standard Entertainment.
“Management is investigating the source of such a malicious report and treats it with all the contempt it deserves. Death, for that matter suicide, is not an issue to be used by any person(s) or firm in a bid to generate news and traffic, especially when such news is frivolous and only tends to cause trauma to the personality involved and his or her family,” a statement signed by Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo, official publicist for the musician, noted.
The statement assured the public that Ofori Amponsah is alive, hearty and working hard on his music career and brand.
Speculations that Ofori had killed himself went viral over the weekend, especially on social media, in a style that was perceived as a publicity gimmick to generate some media attention for the musician.
The statement from his management however denied it had anything to do with putting out the speculation.
“The false suicide story is not a publicity stunt engineered from our camp. We believe in projecting our artistes in a manner that is most acceptable and appropriate, and definitely not to engage in gimmicks that will cast a negative shade on them,” it noted.
The musician sparked a national controversy recently when he turned back on his supposed divine calling and public declaration that he had parted ways with secular music. The musician surprised many by releasing a fresh secular hiplife song, ‘Alewa’, in which he featured ace artiste Sarkodie. It was produced by Keywa.
The song is about erotic love between lovers. It has generated a deafening public uproar and split public opinion but Ofori Amponsah insists it is only a fool who does not change his/her mind and that he remains a Holy Spirit-filled head pastor of a Christian church.
.“I don’t want us to argue much about this but excuse me to say it is only a fool that does not change the mind. I am human and I am rational and things change every day in my life so there are times I can change my mind. I am not an angel. I was in a situation that I was dying inside me and I believe I took the right decision to go to Christ.
“I have not changed my mind. This type of love song I do is not against God. I have thought about it and realised I can preach better through my music.
“Maybe if I had not gone to Christ, you may have [performed] my funeral. I was dying inside me. And I don’t have any regrets for going to Christ. I insist I can still love God and do secular music,” Ofori Amponsah told Kwesi Aboagye on Peace Fm’s Entertainment Show last Saturday.
