Kintampo Accident: Survivor's Account

A man who survived the deadly accident at Kintampo in the Brong Ahafo region has opened up on the cause of the accident.

Alhassan Saffiu told Captain Smart on Adom FM's Morning Show 'Dwaso Nsem' on Thursday that he was on board the KIA truck which was loaded with boxes of tomatoes.

According to him, the truck was heading towards Accra from Burkina Faso capital of Oaugadougou.

He said there were five occupants of the truck and this included a lady who owned the tomatoes.

Alhassan further said that his driver was on the right path when the MMT Bus rammed into their truck.

"From there, I did not see anything again...the next thing I saw was fire service guys surrounding me and they struggled to pull me out...," he said.

Asked if anyone on board the truck survived apart from him, he said he was not sure indicating that he noticed one person who was lying next to him on the truck was dead.

Alhassan sustained injuries in his left leg, back and on his two hands.

He is currently on admission at the emergency ward of the Kintampo Government Hospital.

More than 50 people have so far been confirmed dead in the accident that involved a KIA truck and an MMT bus en route from Kumasi to Tamale.
