We Dont Care If Nana Addo Is On Election Committee Kofi Adams

The National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress, Kofi Adams has said his party is not worried about the composition of of members of the adhoc committee formed by the Electoral Commission to supervise the November polls.

He noted that they would not be worried even if the flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo Addo is made a member of the committee.

“This committee even if it has Nana Akufo Addo on it, Freddie Blay, Mac Manu or whoever we  won’t be worried because they are not going to do anything that will affect the elections,” he added.

Kofi Adams made the comment on Citi FM’s news analysis programme, The Big Issue in relation to the brouhaha over the formation of an 18-member committee set by the Electoral Commission to oversee the country’s November general elections.

Suspend committee now

The EC has come under pressure for including some members of the NDC on the committee.

Pro-opposition groups; Let My Vote Count Alliance and the Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) demanded that Joseph Whittal, Deputy Commissioner at CHRAJ, Dr.Karl Max Arhin, a Deputy Director of International Affairs of the NDC and Francis Azumah of the National Peace Council be removed from the committee since they are known NDC activists.

Make terms of reference clear

But Kofi Adams argued that the public outcry has been massive because of the lack of terms of reference for members of the committee which would state exactly the role of the members on it.

“The solution to the whole problem is the terms of reference of the committee. If they [EC] had brought this out, it would have informed people about what this group is going to do. In the minds of people, it looks as if those on the committee are the ones who are going to ensure that polling stations are provided with ballot papers or are going to announce the results from the strong room,” he observed.

We haven’t suspended Election C’ttee – EC

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission despite intense pressure has said it has not suspended the Election Steering Committee it inaugurated few weeks ago.

speaking on The Big Issue, Christian Owusu Parry, the acting Director of Public Relations at the EC  urged Ghanaians to disregard reports in the media stating otherwise.

“As we speak, the National Election Steering Committee is still in place until a contrary decision is made. The reports  are inaccurate and we are asking the entire citizenry to disregard that piece of information,” he added.
