Assemblies of God Informs Prez Mills Of Rev Dontoh�s Death

President John Evans Atta Mills on Friday urged Ghanaians to consider the divine factor and never forget their maker as they discharge their spiritual and secular duties. He attributed the presence of his Government to the choice of God, and called on people in responsible and privileged positions to always remember God in executing the tasks assigned to them. President Mills gave the advice when a delegation of the Assemblies of God Church, Ghana, and the family of the Rev. William Dontoh, immediate General Superintendent and Spiritual Head of the Church, called on him at the Osu Castle to formally announce the Reverend�s death and funeral. Rev Dontoh, 53, who died on September 5, 2009, after 28 years in Ministry, would be buried at the Osu Cemetery on 0ctober 10. This would be followed by a memorial and thanksgiving service at the Adabraka Evangel Assemblies of God Church in Accra. President Mills said the life of the late Reverend Minister �was being celebrated� because he had finished his earthly assignment, and described people of God as special people and intermediaries between humans and God. �We�ll join you to celebrate the life of Rev Dontoh,� President Mills said, and expressed his condolences to the family, the church and the State. Members of the delegation featured Vice President John Mahama, Chief Justice Georgina Wood, Finance Minister Dr Kwabena Duffuor and the Vice President of the Ghana Journalists Association Mr Affail Monney, who are members of the Assemblies of God faith. Vice President Mahama described the late Rev Dontoh as striking, wonderful leader, approachable and down to earth, and he made an official request to the Government to allow the funeral to be conducted at the forecourt of the State House. The Reverend Dontoh was elected into office in 2002 for a four-year term and was re-elected in 2006. The Rev Moses Sumaila, Acting General Superintendent of the church, said the late Reverend Dontoh was the liaison between the Church and the Government of Ghana. �He served the nation of Ghana, he endeavoured in all his ways to help people to develop so that the nation can develop,� The Rev Sumaila said.
