Enyonam Paki, the woman who allegedly poured acid on her boyfriend, couldn’t stop wheezing and coughing when she appeared before an Accra court on February 23, 2016.
The investigator informed the court, presided over by Mr James Kojo Bota, that Enyonam was asthmatic hence the prolonged coughing.
Enyonam’s plea was not taken when she appeared before the court for the second time that day and was remanded in police custody for two weeks.
The case, which Mr Bota described as a first degree felony, is likely to be transferred to a higher court. It was adjourned to March 8, 2016.
Mr Bota expressed concern over Enyonam’s health and directed that she be sent to the hospital for treatment.
The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Yeboah, informed the court that investigations had been completed and submitted to the Attorney General’s Department for advice.
The facts of the case as presented by Chief Inspector Gregory Yeboah on February 10, 2016 were that Mr Eric Ohemeng, the victim, is a student at GIMPA while Enyonam is unemployed and resided at Madina.
According to the prosecutor, the two were in a love relationship until June 2015 when Ohemeng informed Enyonam of his intention to break up the relationship.
Chief Inspector Yeboah said Enyonam, aggrieved by the news, managed to acquire some sulphuric acid and on June 25, 2015 poured some on Ohemeng leaving him at the point of death after which she went into hiding.
