Work on the Oti Damanko –Bimbila –Yendi portion of the Eastern Corridor is progressing steadily, nearly five years after the sod was cut for construction to begin.

Addressing Parliament in this year’s State of the Nation Address, President John Dramani Mahama, again mentioned that construction work was ongoing just as he mentioned in his address in 2015.

The President has been criticized for some of his claims on various road projects, with some accusing of peddling falsehood. Citi News’ Mohammed Aminu, who visited the northern part of the corridor on Friday, reported that work is ongoing on the Oti Damanko –Bimbila –Yendi stretch, although at a slow pace.

The Foreman on site who spoke to Aminu, Michael Amisie, said work could be completed at the end of this year.

He says government is also yet to complete the payment of compensation to residents along the stretch who have been affected by the project. Some residents who also spoke to Citi News complained about the excess dust from the road and urged the contractors to manage the situation.

A farmer in one of the communities on the stretch also appealed to the contractors to create pathways in order for them to have access routes to their farms.

The Eastern Corridor project seeks to open up the areas along the stretch to brisk business to boost socio economic development.

Already, government has been criticized for delaying construction on the Asikuma-junction to the Peki portion stretch of the corridor, after it asphalted only a part of it. But work on the Dodi Pepeso and Nkwanta stretch has been completed
