Parliament Denies Snubbing Akufo Addo

The Public Affairs Directorate of Parliament has denied claims that the New Patriotic Party’s Flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, was not officially invited to the recently held State of the Nation Address by President John Dramani Mahama.

The office of Nana Addo disclosed in an interview with Accra-based Kasapa FM that the NPP flagbearer and his running mate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia were not invited even though they were willing to attend.

According to Eugene Arhin press secretary of Akufo-Addo, neither parliament nor state protocol extended an invitation to them.

But in a sharp rebuttal, Madam Kate Addo, Acting Director of Public Affairs, Office of Parliament, speaking on the same platform, said an invitation was sent to Nana Akufo Addo.

According to her, “the House recognises the important role he and his party play in our body politics and accords him the necessary respect and courtesies.”

“We sent an invitation to him and it was received by a lady staff of Nana Akufo-Addo’s office by name Mavis. Nana Addo being a former MP has always honoured invitations of the House. I am therefore sure that he could not honour our invitation this time for a very good reason. But it is definitely not because we did not invite him” she added.
