Women Protestors Lock Out DCE

A group of women in the Chereponi District of the Northern Region on Monday stormed the District Assembly’s premises and locked out the District Chief Executive (DCE) Hajia Mary Nakobu.

The women, before locking the office of the DCE, demonstrated through the main streets of the town, accusing her of incompetence and ineptitude and therefore asked government to remove her from office.

“We are passionately appealing to President John Dramani Mahama to immediately remove Hajia Mary form office, “they urged.

The women alleged that the DCE had since her appointment, not initiated any developmental project in the district, saying she was not always in Tamale “pretending to be attending meetings.”

They added that she was not even respecting her colleague women who fought hard for her to be appointed.

The demonstrators, who alleged that Hajia Mary always insulted people, particularly women, and was never prepared to listen to anyone in the district and threatened to “turn our backs against the government should the President fail to remove her from office”.

When contacted by The Ghanaian Times, the DCE denied all the allegations leveled against her by the women.

She said she had done a lot for the women in the district and therefore, was shocked about their behavior.

Hajia Mary suspected that some politicians in the area were behind the demonstration.
