Barring any last minute change of mind, President John Dramani Mahama will this week breathe more life into his administration with the announcement of what officials at the flag staff House have described as the last lap of reshuffle to climax the president’s first term.
The forthcoming changes will mark the conclusion of President’s reshuffles in his first term having been sworn into office on January 7, 2013.
Even as the presidential election is barely eight months away, the yet-to-be announced final reshuffle, deep throat sources at the seat of government disclosed to this paper, is intended to reinvigorate the Mahama administration and position it as battle ready; to make a strong case for reelection of the president.
“Aside this, the reshuffle is also expected to refresh the administration to work with speed within the limited time remaining to complete some of the ongoing projects and programs the President and the NDC promised the people in their 2012 manifesto,” the source added.
The reshuffle, The aL-hAJJ has gathered, will not be too different from previous reshuffles save that, aside the upcoming rationalization affecting Ministers, their deputies and some Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, other appointees to be shown the exit or moved around include Chief Executives and Directors of some state corporations notably in the financial, energy and allied organizations.
While some Ministries that have not tasted reshuffle since the inception of the Mahama government are likely to remain intact, other ministries would see ministers and their or, deputies swap positions; with some of them shown the exit.
The President, sources revealed, will announce a substantive head for the Power Ministry which became vacant last December following the resignation of its head, Dr Kwabena Donkor over what is now known as “health reasons”. However, available intelligence picked by this paper suggests the estranged Kwabena Donkor is most likely to return to post.
Short of mentioning names of persons to be affected by the imminent reshuffle, a source told The aL-hAJJ that, while some CEO of government institutions may be relieved of their duties by reasons of having attained their mandatory retirement age, others are to be removed on grounds of corruption, abuse of office and sabotage of government's policies.
Among state institutions to taste some drastic changes at managerial levels, an impeccable source told The aL-hAJJ, include the GCB, SIC Insurance Company Limited, COCOBOD, Ghana Maritime Authority, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, Bank of Ghana; National Investment Bank, Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), the energy sector among others.
In the case of GCB, reports are that its Managing Director, Simon Dornoo, who has been on leave, is not returning to his post. Indications are also that, some Chief Executives of state institutions serving in acting capacities will be confirmed while non-performing ones will be asked to give way to “fresh blood” to help in prosecuting the president’s agenda.
Information available to this paper also indicates that the President will revoke the appointments of some non-performing and suspected corrupt MMDCEs while those whose term in office has come to an end will be asked to handover to their respective regional ministers.
