With members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) bogged down by internal strife, constituents of  Korle Klottey in the Greater Accra region are turning elsewhere for hope as the November 7 polls draw closer.

According to them, they are counting on the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) for a better leadership as economic hardships take a toll on their lives whiles the NDC and the NPP remain indifferent to their plight.

Consequently the Korle Klottey residents said they have lost confidence in the ability of both the ruling NDC and the opposition NPP to improve their lot, hence their decision to rally behind PPP’s candidate for the constituency, Madam Eva Naa Amarley Lokko, to represent them in Parliament.

In an interview with Today on the eve of Ghana’s 59th Independence Day anniversary, many of the residents reposed their trust and confidence in Madam Lokko to offer them quality leadership which they lamented had eluded them over the years.

They claimed the PPP candidate was an indigene of the area and would bring unity to Korle Klottey which will result in massive development in the constituency.

“I have no doubt in my mind that the PPP parliamentary candidate [Madam Eva Lokko] for  Korle Klottey constituency will be the best Member of Parliament (MP) for us,”  a resident who gave his name as Ayittey Blankson noted.

 Today also gathered that the PPP leadership is solidly behind Madam Lokko and will support her campaign fully.

What is more, the party’s 2012 flag-bearer, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, who is also a resident in the constituency, has expressed willingness to support Madam Lokko win the Korley Klottey seat.

Madam Lokko, who was a former Director-General of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), this paper’s investigations at Korle Klottey constituency revealed, has over the years endeared herself to the people of the area through her commitment and dedication to the cause of the community.

“Madam Lokko is an embodiment of peace in our constituency and for that matter we cannot anymore allow the ranting NPP and NDC to destroy the relative peace we are currently enjoying,” a fish monger, Naa Adjeley, told this reporter.

“In the face of all this confusion politically, it is prudent the people of Korle Klottey vote for a different person and ignore both the NDC and the NPP. And I mean they should vote for a tried tested and person like Madam Eva Lokko who has the political clout to bring development to the constituency,” they urged.

The residents urged the electorate in the constituency not to waste their votes on either the NPP or the NDC candidates since according to them, none of these political parties’ candidates can offer them anything good apart from “chaos and impoverished life.”

They pointed out that the current happenings in the NPP and the NDC in the constituency was a clear indication of leadership failure which could have dire consequences in the area, if any of the candidates of the two parties is voted to represent the constituency in Parliament.

“But with the PPP candidate with her vast experience in public life and also having been a running mate to the party’s 2012 flag-bearer, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, she would be a better choice compared to the rest of the candidates,” Naa Adjeley opined.

“How can we vote for political parties who are fighting over who should lead them in Parliament? It is therefore obvious that the two parties (NDC and NPP) are not ready to govern and so we shouldn’t waste our energy and votes on them,” she averred.

Both the NPP and the NDC in the Korle Klottey constituency are currently in turmoil as the leadership of the two parties in the area are yet to resolve bottlenecks between the feuding factions of the two parties in the constituency.

For instance, the eligibility of the NDC parliamentary candidate, Dr. Zenator Rawlings, the daughter of former President Jerry John Rawlings, is being challenged by the incumbent MP, Nii Armah Ashitey, who lost to her in the party’s parliamentary primary.

However, unlike the NDC, the NPP is confronted with the issue of the defeated aspirant in the party’s recent re-run primary, Nii Noi Nortey, going solo in the November polls as his supporters claimed he was cheated by the winner, Lawyer Philip Addison, in connivance with the party’s hierarchy.

And barring any unforeseen circumstances, the defeated NPP aspirant will today hold a press conference to launch his campaign as an independent parliamentary candidate for theNovember 7 polls.

Meanwhile, Today can confirm that Nii Noi Nortey’s posters are already out which situation some political analysts who spoke to this reporter on condition of anonymity believe will make Madam Lokko a more likable candidate.
