National Democratic Congress (NDC) executives in Atiwa East and West constituencies in the Eastern Region are calling for the dismissal of the Atiwa District Chief Executive (DCE), Emmanuel Atta Twum.
The DCE collapsed Sunday while reading his speech during the Independence Day celebration at Akyem-Kwabeng in the Eastern Region.
After an extended executive committee meeting on Monday, a party source told Joy Fm that the two constituencies had resolved to petition President John Mahama and the NDC leadership to relieve the DCE of his post, citing claims of ill health against the DCE.
Sunday was not the first time the DCE fell at a public event. Sometime in July last year, he collapsed while responding to accusations of neglect by his constituency executives in Koforidua.
He fell unconscious again during last December’s Farmers’ Day celebrations in Akyem-Akropong.
Emmanuel Atta Twum also collapsed during a harvest ceremony at the Tumfa Presbyterian Church in Atiwa.
But in all these cases, the embattled DCE fought back strenuously to defend his position, claiming that he did not fall.
At a point he raced to DAILY GUIDE offices to disclaim reports that he fell on the Farmers’ Day.
Reacting to recent reports, the DCE insists he was fit even though he admitted he stopped reading his speech half-way through but did not faint.
“I felt weak and thought that I should let my Education Director read my speech so it came as a surprise to me that it was on air that I collapsed. It is a total lie and fabrication. If I had collapsed I would have been taken to the hospital but that wasn’t the situation. I was in the house taking my rest,” he explained.
He also rubbished claims that his constituency executives have called for his dismissal due to his constant fainting at public functions.
According to the DCE, he personally facilitated the organization of the executive committee meeting which purportedly took the decision and at no point did they discuss issues relating to him or his health.
