Tetteh Quarshie Did Not Steal Cocoa Historian

Prof Kwame Osei Kwarteng, head of the History Department of the University of Cape-Coast, has debunked allegations by the Superintendent Minister of the Dzorwulu Circuit of the Methodist Church of Ghana that Tetteh Quarshie stole the cocoa beans he brought to Ghana.

Rev Stephen Bosomtwe-Ayensu has said that Ghana is not performing well economically because cocoa, which has been the backbone of Ghana's economy for decades, was smuggled into the country by Tetteh Quashie.

But Prof Osei Kwarteng says, Rev. Bosomtwe-Ayensu has no evidence to back his claim but only quoting Prof Adu Boahene’s book which says ‘Tetteh Quarshie stole some cocoa pods to Ghana’.

According to Prof Osei Kwarteng, cocoa was first brought and nurtured by Tetteh Quarshie and Presbyterian missionaries with the aim of making the then Gold Coast a better place, and it has largely succeeded.

He called on Ghanaians to rather appreciate the suffering of Tetteh Quarshie together with other missionaries who brought cocoa to Ghana and not accuse them of theft.

Meanwhile Concerned Youth of Ga-Dangme are demanding an apology from Rev. Bosomtwe-Ayensu.

Leader of the group, Nii Ayaafio Tetteh I, says they will be forced to summon Rev. Bosomtwe-Ayensu to the traditional leaders of Ga-Dangme if he does not apologize in the next three days.

Bishop Bosomtwe Ayensu when contacted by Adom News refused to comment on the issue and dared the group to drag him to court.
