Ghanaian Journalists Weak . . . They Should Have Boycotted Indece Day Event

A leading member of pressure group Occupy Ghana, Sydney Casely-Hayford has maintained that Ghanaian journalists are “weak” when it comes to taking a majority decision for their wellbeing.

According to him, he expected journalists covering the 59th Independence Day celebration who were packed in a tipper truck to have “boycotted” the event for the shabby treatment meted out to them.

Speaking on Citi FM, Sydney Casely-Hayford described the unfortunate mishap as “disgusting and disappointing” - adding that government does not respect journalists.

“The journalists had a choice. They should have boycotted coverage of the event in protest of the inhumane treatment. But they were probably weak- spined to do so. A clear message must be sent to government to treat journalists better than they do,” he said.

Sydney’s comment has add up to a cross- section of the public who have criticized government for belittling journalists by accommodating them in the bucket of tipper truck.

But Government communicators have explained that the truck was for journalists who did not acquire the necessary accreditation for the program, as such could not have space on the special podium reserved for accredited journalists.
