16-Year-Old Girl Stabs Man To Death Over 1

A 23-year-old man has been stabbed to death by a teenage girl in Sunyani, the Brong Ahafo Region capital, following an argument Friday over ¢1.

Ohene Asante, a computer technician, died shortly after he was stabbed in the chest with a knife by the 16-year-old girl (name withheld ).

The two who were suspected to be in an amorous relationship had had a brief altercation over a ¢1 note said to have been removed from the deceased’s pocket by the teenager.

So far, there has been two narrations of what happened. One side reports that, during the altercation, one of the girl’s sandals was removed.

The deceased is said to have seized the sandal on condition that he will give it back to her when he gets his money. People around intervened for the deceased to return the sandal, which he eventually did.

Feeling embarrassed, the girl went home and came back to the place the fight took place, with a knife and stabbed the deceased.

Another side reports that after the girl refused to return the deceased’s money, he is said to have beaten her up in the ensuing exchanges in which she lost a tooth during the beating.

Infuriated by the drubbing, she is said to have gone home to bring a knife, which she used to stab the deceased in what many belief was an act of revenge.

Residents of the area upon hearing what the girl has done charged to go attack her at home. She is reported to have escaped through the window by the time the angry residents got there.

The girl has since gone into hiding, but Sunyani police say they are looking for her to assist with investigation into the bizarre incident.

Sunyani District Commander, DSP Franklin Kramoh, says he is confident his men would get to the bottom of the matter.

Thomas Oppong Asante, an uncle of the deceased told Joy News' Precious Semevor that the incident has devastated the family.

“The harm has already been done. A young man, a strong guy, you should see him. So in fact the family has lost a lot. God knows best,” said Mr Oppong.
