Police officers have been asked to remain non-partisan and act firmly within the law to protect the peace as the nation edges towards general elections.
The Director of the National Patrol Department, Police Chief Superintendent Obed Dzikunu, said the expectation was that they would stick to best practices and uphold high standards of professionalism.
That, he noted, was the way to win public acceptance, trust, support and cooperation.
He was addressing a meeting held with personnel of the department in the Ashanti Region at Suame in Kumasi.
Chief Supt Dzikunu reminded them to treat people arrested on suspicion of having breached the law with dignity, saying, the fundamental human rights of everybody must be respected.
They should avoid anything unethical to help the people to overcome the misconceptions they have about the police.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Emmanuel Gadikor, Unit Commander of the Regional Patrol and Visibility Department, said they were determined to go to every length to significantly reduce crime.
The Regional Department operates 34 duty posts in the Kumasi Metropolis with 234 officers and 15 vehicles.
He applauded the hard work and commitment of the officers and said this needed to be sustained.
