NGO assists 37 needy children in Wa Municipality to go to school

International Movement of Catholic Students (IMCS-Pax Romana) of the Wa Campus of the University for Development Studies (UDS) assisted 37 needy children to enrol in kindergarten and primary schools in the Wa Municipality this academic year. The children are provided with school uniform and bags with funds from the Netherlands Opportunity Education Fund at a cost of 890 Ghana Cedis. Mr. Atayaaba Justus Triumph, President of IMCS-Pax Ramana, said group was dedicated to providing preferential options for the poor and would under its education project assist more needy children in the Municipality enrol. He said the NGO identified the needy children who were interested in going to school but had been constrained financially in house to survey it undertook recently. Mr. Triumph said NGO would in future expand its operations to other districts in the region but would for the mean time work hard to keep the 37 children in school to at least complete their basic education. It is our wish to strengthen our monitoring and evaluation roles to ensure that the children are retained in school, and called on other non-governmental organisations, benevolent organisations and philanthropists to support the project. Mr. Triumph noted that the provision of micro-credit alone to the poor by some NGOs would not solve the problems and challenges of poverty, diseases and ignorance among the people but that it was only through education that the people could turn their worse form and condition of life to prosperous and progressive lives.
