Highway Robbers Kill Cop

Police in the Western Region have mounted a search for a group of highway robbers who shot and killed a policeman at Juabo near Bibiani last Wednesday.

The deceased, Constable Francis Osei Amankwaa, 28, who was at the Juabo police station, was returning home from a night duty in a taxi when he bumped into the robbers and was attacked.

According to Edward Mensah, an uncle of the deceased who narrated the incident to Skyy Power FM in Takoradi, the robbers had stopped many vehicles on the road and ordered passengers to lie down when the uniformed policeman bumped into them.

On spotting the cop, the robbers became alarmed, rushed on him and stabbed him before shooting him and absconded. No arrest has yet been made.

The Bibiani District Police Commander, ACP Enoch Adu Twum Bediako, indicated that the unfortunate incident happened after the late cop had handed over his weapon at the Bekwai Police Station.

“This was after the deceased had closed from duty at a police check point in the area,” he maintained.

The body of Constable Francis Osei Amankwaa has since been deposited at the Bibiani Government Hospital.
