Three Suspected Women Armed Robbers Remanded

Three women who were arrested for alleged robbery were yesterday remanded in prison custody by the Kumasi Circuit Court.

Together with a minor, they reportedly attacked and robbed a taxi driver of his cash and mobile phone at knifepoint.

The pleas of Mavis Darkoaa, Sally Sarfo and Abena Asantewaa were not taken and they would make their next appearance before the court presided over by Mr Ekow Mensah on April 8, 2016.

Their other accomplice, aged 16, was, however, granted a GH¢10,000 bail with two sureties.

Facts

Chief Superintendent of  Police, Mr Emmanuel Akunnor, told the court that the incident happened on March 9, 2016 at about 11:30 p.m.

He said the accused engaged the services of the victim,  Kwadwo Obeng, to convey them in his Toyota Echo taxi from Asafo to Afful-Nkwanta.

He said as they approached the Anhwiam Clinic, Darkoaa drew a knife and ordered the victim to put off the car engine, hand over the ignition key, money and everything on him.

Mr Akunnor said the accused succeeded in forcibly taking  GH¢145 and a Huawei mobile phone valued at GH¢350 from the victim and fled.

Obeng, he said, raised an alarm and he was assisted by passers-by to arrest the minor after a hot chase and she led the police to arrest the other three suspects the next day.

The prosecution informed the court that the docket was being sent to the Attorney-General’s Department for advice.
