Odike, 2 Others Dismissed From UPP

The Founder and Leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Akwasi Addai Odike has been dismissed by the 15-member National Executive Committee (NEC) of his party on the grounds of working against the constitution of the party.

According to the dismissal letter signed by the UPP’s 1st National Vice Chairman, Alhaji Bashiru Zakari and the Acting General Secretary, Gabriel Asamoah-Boakye, they have written a letter “to notify the Electoral Commission (EC) that Akwasi Addai Odike, Emmanuel Adjei Akrong and Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko have been dismissed from the party and from their executive position in accordance with Article 28, 29 and Article 16 (subsection 3) of the party constitution.”

In the minutes of the NEC meeting held on March 18, 2016 in Kumasi, all the executive members of NEC from the 10 regions confirmed with their signatories to dismiss Akwasi Addai Odike, Emmanuel Adjei Akrong, Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko for misconduct.

In the dismissal letter copied to Peacefmonline.com, all the 15 National Executive Committee members present at the meeting unanimously voted for Gabriel Asamoah-Boakye as the Acting General Secretary of the party in accordance with Article 28 and 29 of the party’s constitution, pending National Delegates Congress to elect substantive General Secretary for the party.

The General Secretary position of the United Progressive Party (UPP) became vacant when Razak Kojo Opoku resigned from the party to join the All People’s Congress (APC) over the same misconduct of the leader and founder of UPP, Akwasi Addai Odike.

Meanwhile, Mustapha Ben Taylor and Ekow Elvis Appah respectively have maintained their positions as the Deputy General Secretaries for the party in accordance with the appointment letters that were issued to them on December 12, 2015 NEC meeting held at Miklin Hotel, Kumasi.

Speaking about the dismissal of Odike from UPP, a member of the National Executive Committee and the Central Regional Chairman, Gideon Nuako on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show confirmed the dismissal saying Odike has not been a good leader since the formation of the party.

He added that Akwasi Addai Odike has taken hold of the party’s account as he does not render any account to the hierarchy as the constitution demands; stressing that he [Odike] does not call any meeting to discuss the way forward for the party to plan towards the November polls this year, hence his dismissal.
