Snake Town Fumigated

Officials of the Ejisu Juaben Municipal Assembly have begun fumigating buildings in Essienimpong, Kwaaso and Piase close to Ejisu in the Ashanti Region after snakes invaded the community.

The residents who say they are living in fear had to put up with hundreds of green snakes who usually invade their homes at night.

The towns are surrounded by dense vegetation, but residents say for the past 40 years, they have never experienced this incident before.

Luv FM’s Erastus Asare Donkor, who has been monitoring the fumigation exercise, reported that the officials attribute the phenomenon to migration.

They explained that due to the rains, the snakes cannot get heat to hatch their eggs, hence the movement to a safe haven.

Among the snakes identified, Erastus said, are green mambas who have no venom to bite residents.

He said residents of Essienimpong, Kwaaso and Piase have been asked to weed their environment to ensure no snake hides there.

Meanwhile, former chief of Kwaaso, Nana Ofosu Agyeman, has called for the reintroduction of communal labour to prevent such incidents.

He said with a clean environment, residents would live in peace without fear.
