Accam disappointed to miss Ghana call

The attacker is crestfallen to have been forced out of Ghana’s upcoming double-header with Mozambique.

Chicago Fire winger David Accam is devastated to be out of Ghana’s upcoming 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header with Mozambique.

The 25-year-old was initially named in coach Avram Grant’s 23-man squad for the games but has been forced to withdraw due to a left knee sprain sustained while training at his club.

The Black Stars host the Mambas at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, three days before the return encounter.

“It is really disappointing because I have worked for this opportunity,” Accam told JoySports.

“The whole year, especially in the off-season, I have been working hard for this chance.

“For me not to come to Ghana and play is disappointing but that is part of life and I have to move on and come back stronger.

“For me to break into the team, I need a lot of work. I need to work extra hard.

“We have a lot of players. Even recently, I watched the Ghana Premier League and saw a lot of players doing well so I have to work very hard no matter where I am.”

Ghana hold a three-point lead in the group ahead of the coming games.
